Sarah’s Story: Finding New Light Amid Uncertainty

Growing up as a Palestinian refugee in Lebanon, Sarah knew that change was a constant, yet her family remained her unwavering anchor. Curious about how computers worked, she had an early fascination with technology but initially chose a different path. Supported by her close-knit family, Sarah pursued her dream of becoming a registered nurse and specializing in cardiology. She graduated in 2020, excited about her future in healthcare. However, a year into the job, Sarah realized nursing wasn't her calling.

“I wanted to specialize in cardiology, but after working as a nurse for a while, I found that it didn’t suit me or my lifestyle,” she admitted.

The long hours and demanding nature of the job drained her energy, leaving her unable to pursue other interests.

Despite the uncertainty and fear of starting over, Sarah decided she couldn't continue down a path that didn't fulfill her.

Embracing Change: How Re:Coded Transformed Sarah’s Life

After leaving nursing, Sarah who is always looking for growth both career and personal searched online for courses, looking for something she could use to refocus her career.

It was then she stumbled upon Re:Coded's Frontend Web Development Bootcamp. She was intrigued by the idea of joining a program that welcomed beginners and offered an opportunity to connect with a global network of learners.

Almost immediately after joining the bootcamp, she saw herself progressing in ways she hadn't imagined.

I never thought I’d be good at coding, especially since I had no programming background. But after 2-3 months, I made huge progress I didn’t think was possible.”

In November 2022, Sarah graduated, launching a new career journey with Re:Coded’s support. “The graduation was the end of something beautiful, but I knew something even better was on the horizon.”

The New Dream: Building Success in Tech

“Shifting careers isn’t easy when you have few opportunities and are starting from scratch,” Sarah reflects. “But Re:Coded surrounded me with the right community and helped me see that changing paths didn’t have to be as difficult as I feared.” She also shared “This bootcamp made me realize that I don’t have to be the “know-it-all” kind of person to excel at something; we can learn when we commit, and we can become what no one ever thought we would become, and that by itself is self-empowering.”

Sarah now works as a frontend web developer for a Jordanian company, and her life has changed dramatically. “As a nurse, my work schedule was erratic, and I never had time for myself. Now, I have a stable work schedule, more time for personal growth, and I can continue learning while working.”

Her work rituals include morning coffee, scented candles, and noise-canceling headphones.

She loves the flexibility tech offers. “In tech, you’re never stuck. You can always progress and contribute in different ways.

My dream is to build or be a part of something remarkable and become an inspiration to others.”

Finding the True Value of Re:Coded

Sarah shares that Re:Coded’s bootcamp was more than just a course. “My whole life, I thought I could only be one thing. Re:Coded helped me realize that I could explore my full potential, even during difficult times.”

Before joining the program, she felt stuck, but Re:Coded gave her the confidence to tackle challenges and seek help.

“The bootcamp taught me not just tech skills, but how to keep learning. Now, whenever I face a new framework or challenge at work, I know how to approach it.”

A Message to Fellow Career Shifters

To those on a similar journey, Sarah offers this advice: “Trust the process. You will make mistakes, but learn from them.

Progress might not be visible day by day, but you’ll see it in the end. Keep going.”
